Poisoning is very common in our country and also in different parts of the world. It may be suicidal, homicidal or accidental in nature. So we should have some basic knowledge about the pre-hospital management of poisoned patient.

- suicidal: drug overdose e.g. paracetamol, sedatives, insecticides.
- homicidal: arsenic, potacium cianide
- accidental: chemicals, kerosine, paints, carbon mono-oxide gas.
- food poisoning
- vomiting
- sweating
- diarrhoea
- excessive salivation
- double vision
- visual disturbance
- loss of consciousness
- fever
- headache
- rashs
- chest pain
- abdominal pain
- odour of poison from patients mouth
- Seek immediate medical help
- Induce vomiting if poison swallowed
- Try to identify the poison and bring it with the patient. It will help the doctor to identify specific drug for treatments.
- If patients vomit,wash it thoroughly.
- Change the patients clothing if these are soaked with poison.
